Which Spelling Should We Use in a Global Neighbourhood?
This is an interesting article that I've been meaning to read all day. I stumble on this problem daily. Jeez, sometimes hourly. Being American I learned that red is a color and the paper things that are worth money are checks. Now that I live in Canada, and am a proud Canadian citizen, I try to use British/Canadian English spellings. I usually get colour (I do have to think about it), cheque I always spell as such…especially to Canadians who might wonder what I'm talking about. The rest are a bit hit and miss. The “s” instead of “z” for utilize…nope. Neighbourhood…I always misspell that anyway so the spell check (American English) catches that.
So this doesn't really have much to do will telecommuting or knowledge management, but the author does make a good point…most English speakers spell in British English…I think that might make American English the odd one out. Time to try the U.K./Canadian dictionaries again….
