Skype close to launching PC to phone calling

I've used Skype only once I think. The concept is good, the problem is that Skype becomes yet another
IM-like tool. I feel that I can keep only so many apps like this
running on my machine at one time. I have three apps like this
running right now :Convoq ASAP, Chatango, and Miranda (for AIM, Yahoo, and MSN), and I think that's enough.

So for me Skype is going to be one of those once and a while
tools. Like switching from e-mails going back and forth to IM,
same thing e-mail to Skype or IM to Skype.

  1. Hi Tris
To a degree I agree with you re having yet another application open. But I've been using Skype for a while now – even before they allowed calls to landlines – and I absolutely love it. I have family all over the place – and on PC to PC calls to Australia where my younger brother lives, it's brilliant. I loaded ?10 on it and made some landline calls and it works really well. I'm even considering getting the USB phone that goes with it – and using that for my landlines calls only.
Very nice little app, and it works.
Just my two pence' worth 🙂

  2. Riaan,
Thanks for the feedback. Since I've only used it once, I haven't had the opportunity to see the benefits. But it sounds like Skype very well could become a way to communicate with friends, family, and clients. Hopefully they will have an OS X client soon. (maybe the Linux client works, I don't know)
I was just talking with a client/nieghbor about VoIP, so this is timely. I'm going to have to try having it open more now.
