- GE's
Imagination at Work project is offering a “for testing purposes only”
real-time online drawing service. It enables two people to draw in a
Flash-enabled browser pane. The other person can be invited by IM or
email. GE- Akonix announced support for the forthcoming
Microsoft Live Communications Server 2005, which will enable optional,
tariff-based connectivity with MSN Messenger, Yahoo Messenger and AOL
Instant Messenger. “Akonix L7 Enterprise guarantees IT managers
deploying Live Communications Server 2005 the ability to fully control
their employees' use of both public and internal IM, offering
watertight compliance, security and management features needed for any
successful and productive enterprise-wide roll-out of IM.” Comment:
Good on them … talk about taking a competitive challenge head on, and
explaining in a concise way why its products are helpful immediately
and also how they have a longer-term future. Akonix- Jabber
announced a server-to-server gateway for connecting its XMPP-based
Jabber XCP IM platform with the IBM Lotus Instant Messenger SIMPLE
gateway. Available in some months. Comment: Okay, but what's with the
“IBM's *version* of SIMPLE” … is this gateway only for IBM's
implementation of SIMPLE, or something wider? If only IBM's, then this
early fragmentation of SIMPLE is no good. BusinessWire- A
