Updates from Shared Spaces

Today's highlights: Groove Virtual Office due next week; Smartner Duality;

  • Groove Networks will release version 3 of its peer-to-peer collaboration software, previously called Groove Workspace, next week. The new name for the offering is “Groove Virtual Office”, with the professional edition priced at $179 per user. Reuters is a user of the new offering, and a spokesperson says “Microsoft's doing some nice things with SharePoint, but we prefer Groove …. It has a rich client, it's easier to use and doesn't require you to constantly refresh the browser”. eWeek ZDNet
  • Smartner (who I've never heard of before) launched an expansion of its Duality Always-On Mail product line. The new offering, Duality Internet Edition, enables a user with a Java-enabled mobile phone to send and receive Internet email, similar to the RIM BlackBerry idea. Its two earlier offerings were the Duality Professional Edition and the Duality Enterprise Edition. Comment: This was announced in May, but there is no clear way to get the Internet Edition on the Smartner site. I tried for Germany, United Kingdom, and New Zealand, and only the Professional and Enterprise Editions were listed. Strange. Smartner
