Shared Spaces news for July 2

Today's highlights: Oracle Collaboration Suite Revenue; Antepo and BT Syntegra; IBM Conferencing GUI;

  • Oracle increased its revenue take for Collaboration Suite from $1 million in 2001 to $5.5 million in 2003. Comment: That's a good enough growth rate for 2 years, but it's still a tiny proportion of the wider market. searchOracle.com
  • Antepo introduced a new track to its partnership program, for Managed Service Providers (MSPs) , who want to offer hosted or managed enterprise IM networks to customers. “MSP Partners can leverage the OPN System to host a complete, end-to-end EIM network for each customer, or deploy a federated IM hub as a single, secure point of connectivity to route external IM traffic for customers with existing IM systems in place”. BT Syntegra is a member of the new track. Antepo
  • IBM's working on various technologies to help users in audio conferences know who is talking and who is listening. One technology is a “browser-based representation of an audio conference [that] resembles an old-fashioned game of marbles, with colored marbles in a circle. Each marble is labeled with the name of the participant it represents. The center and one wedge of the circle are highlighted. The speaker is represented by the marble in the center of the circle; the one who's queued up to speak next is represented by the marble in the wedge. “Marbles” enter and leave the circle as participants enter and drop off the conference.” Comment: Good stuff. The first time I saw such a technology working — and working well — was in Latitude Communications' MeetingPlace offering, which is now owned by Cisco. eWeek
