- New customer for SiteScape's Enterprise Forum web-based team workspace collaboration platform: the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences. SiteScape
- LAN 2 LAN launched .ROAM for IBM Lotus Domino, which uses the push technology of a RIM BlackBerry Enterprise Server to deliver data from Notes/Domino applications to the local cache on a BlackBerry device, thus enabling seamless and ubiquitous access regardless of network connectivity options. - Macromedia is previewing integration between Macromedia Breeze–a web conferencing capability that uses the Macromedia Flash Player–and IM services. “By typing a keyword in the messaging client, users can immediately enter a Breeze meeting to collaborate, share screens and documents, and interact with a shared whiteboard without any additional downloads.” The technology preview works with any IM client. - Visto Corporation released Visto Mobile for Wireless Operators, a push-based mobile email/PIM solution. Visto Mobile provides “operators with a single common architecture to integrate a range of push email/PIM services on a host of different handsets, from most simple phones to the most capable smart phones. Visto Mobile provides the real-time platform operators want, in order to provide a wide range of mobile mail solutions to their subscribers. The platform includes Visto Mobile Personal Edition, providing personal email/PIM to subscribers; and Visto Mobile Enterprise Server, an enterprise class solution for companies using Microsoft Exchange or IBM Lotus Domino servers. Visto Mobile provides an always-connected solution for immediate delivery of email to the mobile device over 2.5G and 3G networks including GPRS, CDMA/1xRTT, CDMA 2000 and WCDMA.” Visto
- The City of London is implementing a set of extranet communication and collaboration products to improve business continuity. Called CitySafe, specific capabilities are secure instant messaging (via 128-bit encryption), teleconferencing, SMS/TXT, and voice over IP calling. ComputerWeekly
- Nokia entered into a licensing agreement with NTP, for five patents covering wireless email devices and services. NTP is currently engaged in litigation with RIM for patent violation in the RIM BlackBerry. Nokia licensed the patents to ensure trouble-free introduction of the RIM-capable Nokia 6820 device onto the US market in 2-3 months. eWeek
- Nokia introduced the Nokia Wireless Keyboard, which uses Bluetooth to communicate with Bluetooth capable Nokia devices. The keyboard is targeted at mobile professionals. Available 4Q2004. Nokia
