Lookout update

On Thursday, while watching CSI, I wrote about MS buying Lookout Software and that I downloaded the application to try.

Now to be honest I haven't had the need to find a something since I installed. So I don't have the “holy smokes it saved my butt” kind of review. This is pretty basic.

The install was simple and painless. The initial indexing took about 5 minutes (my Outlook data files are in the 150-200 meg range).

So I restart Outlook and give it a whirl. Everyone says it's fast. Yeah, sure, fast, right. Holy smokes it is fast! It takes less than 10 seconds for the search window to come up after hitting enter (this is typing an entry in via the toolbar). The window says the queries are done in about 1-4 seconds. It is thorough and fast. My only complaint is that the query language is a bit tricky, just in terms of remembering the permutations, but there are pull down menus to on the fly limit search results to e-mails, today, last week, files, contacts, attachments, etc.

My recommendation, if you have Outlook get it. Just get it.
