Google and blogs and match made in Heaven?
I have certainly found this to be completely true. And
it's not just Google, but all the search engines. Ironically my
first big traffic boost and Google attention was about the iPod as
well. Now has all this spidering helped my traffic, not really,
but that's okay. In my mind, my stats are a proof to clients that
if you want to raise your profile with search engines blogs are a great
way. They aren't the only way for sure. Blogs don't replace
good SEO work, but as Mike pointed out blogs are: websites with content
updated frequently with links to (and from) other websites and the
content is frequently all within a narrow area of focus. Sounds
like a search engine magnet to me.
Mike also counters the
perception that blogs are clogging the search engine space (the bias
that they aren't real news, information, journalism, etc). Blogs are
often updated minutes after a piece of news breaks and have passionate
commentary. What more could any news outlet or company
want. The minute I got the Grooveblog post that Groove v3 was officially out, it was on my site. That night it was spidered. Just spreading the word.
Gotta love blogs.
Google Loves Weblogs
July 21, 2004 by Mike RundleSince
this past Saturday, more than 70% of the traffic coming to my personal
website has been from Googlers searching for terms like “hPod” or “blue hPod”. Apple announced new iPods
on Monday, and then verified that they were producing an HP-branded
blue iPod based on the 4th generation model they just came out with. So
why is this so amazing?Weblogs are chock full of archived information, and when I wrote about the HP iPod (or hPod for short) rumor, I wrote about it back in January
(my site is currently being redesigned live, so please forgive me!).
That little page has been dormant for 7 months, but just sprang to life
upon the thousands of Googlers who clicked on the link in the search
results.
It's very true. I've been keeping a close eye on this, and I think that Google is explictly monitoring blogs and pushing well PageRank-ed blog content up the results list. I wrote more on this on the Blogdigger blog.
I like the new layout.
Thanks Greg. Great post on your blog. Google must realize that a lot of the “real” action on the Net right now is going on within the Blogsphere.
Glad you like the layout. I'm tweaking it here and there though. Still unpacking virtual boxes.
