What’s your favorite way to build a content calendar? I go between Asana and Trello myself, but more importantly, does your content calendar have everything you need to power a content marketing creation engine?
All content calendars need:
- Title/Subject
- where the piece is in the process
- who is doing the writing
- who is approving
- when it’s needed
- how it matches up against your content strategy
- keywords
Bonus items:
- who is it for (personas)
- what kind of content is it
- where will it be published
- social posting
- headline score from headline analyzer
- value proposition it supports
- graphics needed
I wrote about content calendars and how I use them and have a really basic template to share. I just updated the Excel version to Google Sheets and added some new columns and notes. You can download the calendar for yourself.
Now here’s the catch about content calendars—you actually have to freakin’ use them. You can’t fill out a content calendar and call it a day. You need to look at the calendar daily. You need to refill the idea well. You need to see if a piece needs a nudge to get it published. Content calendars are project plans for writing teams. Nothing will get better if you don’t use it.
