Avoiding the “Gotchas” of Knowledge Management | Winter 2003/2004 Perspectives | ICF Consulting

Pretty good article. Some basic and important things to watch for…beyond the standard PM stuff of having support from the top, clear owners and roles, it's important to understand the KM as it is often implemented is completely contrary to the way people have learned to work. Keep your good ideas and use them as golden tickets to a promotion or to pull a Scotty create a miracle.

KM is about information. Finding it, storing it, retrieving it, cataloguing it. Information is the seed of knowledge. I firmly believe the way to win over people to KM is to first not do KM, but show them how to gather, organize, and retrieve the information they already personally have. Then armed with that move into the larger organization.
