AOL quits enterprise IM game

So now that AOL has followed Yahoo and abandoned the corporate IM game, I guess that Redmond is going to be free to take it over. I know that there are many robust corporate IM clients, but the fact remains that if you're a Microsoft shop and you have Exchange server 2003/4 installed, they are going to make it really easy for you to make Windows Messenger just part of the mix. Of course a savvy developer will realize that many, many folks use AIM or Yahoo IM for personal communications so the market for business strength IM that also allows monitored or “safe” connections to the public IM network will grow quickly now.

The ISP follows in the footsteps of rival Yahoo by discontinuing its instant-messenger software for businesses.
