I had a chance to sit down with Jenn Lowther of Tagga to hear what their plans for BlogWorld Expo were. When I first was introduced to Tagga about a month ago I knew that Tagga would fit in at BlogWorld and would do something cool.
I was certainly not disappointed.
Jenn told me that between Friday night and Sunday there will be 8 TaggaMobs. You’ll get instructions via SMS and when you get there the prizes to be won will be done via Tagga’s twitter ID (hint, follow them now).

How, pray tell, do you get the location? Through Tagga, of course.

Text “tagga” to 82442 and you’ll get this back:

http://tagga.tagga.com Follow @tagga on twitter for updates on the next taggamob at Blogworld! First taggamob at Bare party on Friday.

When the Taggamob is to start, you’ll get an SMS and the fun will commence.

And speaking of prizes, the grand prize on Sunday is a $500 Apple store gift card.

So while a flashmob has typically used SMS or Twitter, a Taggamob can could use SMS and Twitter.

Pretty cool.

I have to admit that I haven’t been a huge SMS user in the past. Never quite got the point, well that was until the last year when I learned that SMS lets you quickly reach people when you’re out and about. Yeah, old hat to lots of you, but I’m still finding it pretty cool. After a large (for me) SMS bill, I went with an unlimited SMS plan for my new Berry. SMS-ing like crazy? Not yet, but I think I might have a good reason to now. Jenn Lowther showed me this new Tagga service last week at the Friday Gastown Tweetup. Generally I’d be, uh huh, sure … but this has some real utility

The team here at tagga is really excited that we can finally share with you what we have been working on in stealth. Keeping this quiet and under wraps has been really hard – mostly because we like what we have built and we hope you do to.

We are launching the first mobile bookmarking platform! Tagg is a free service that lets anyone tag real world items and web snippets to their mobile phone. From the Tagga blog

The first thing Jenn showed me was that sending jennmae to 82442 would send me her contact info. That’s rather handy. Then there comes the cool thing. Sending webpages, links, etc to your phone. Why? Think about it. You’re searching for a store or something. You make a mental note of the address and not until you’re driving there do you realize that your mental pen was out of ink.

Hmm. Problem.

So, what if you could just select a bit of text from that page and text it to yourself? Yeah now you’re talking.

Cecily told me about the photo store she likes–Beau Photo–so I used the cool Tagga bookmarklet to send myself their address and phone number so I can find it later.

Nice.

When you sign up for Tagga you can create your own tagg … if you send tris to 82442 then you get my new e-biz card which also has additional info if you view it on the Tagga site. Very convenient. Esp. since I am currently “between business cards” and am going to Boston shortly. Business card? Just text…save paper.

I might also try the Bluetooth beaming thing.

But I digress.

Tagga, looks like a fun piece of technology, but there is a business model which is running SMS-based advertising campaigns. Bloggers, like me, can also sign up for a revenue sharing program, which I don’t quite understand so Jenn will have to show me, via sending out info from your site with ads included.

Will it work? You know I didn’t realize how much people text until I was around more people with cell phones (always working from home will do that to you).

Hmm, maybe something nice and geo-targeted with coupons might be cool.
