Upcoming talks, classes, and lectures in May

Turns out May is a really busy month for me for speaking and such. Let’s start off with Northern Voice this weekend…

I’m talking Blogging ABC’s in the Social Media 101 track Friday morning, followed by Beyond the Hype: Teaching About Social Media and Teaching Using Social Media with Raul. On Saturday I’m helping Lloyd Budd on the WordPress Genius bar from 2:30-3:30, so you can hit me up with all your WP-related questions then. I hope you have your tickets for Northern Voice already, because it’s sold out (again, 5 years running).

Next week, Raul and I are giving the WordPress Mastermind Series #4: How Come No One is Reading My Blog? session on Monday evening. While I know the topic is traffic and writing content that people want to read, I have a suspicion that we’ll cover a lot more than just writing good content. I looks like you can still sign up to attend this session.

On Wednesday I get to bring out my academic garb, don my gown and hood and give the commencement address for The Art Institute of Vancouver. I’m wondering how many clichés I can squeeze into 10 minutes, but since my commencement speaker (undergrad) was Thomas Watson, Jr. and was very good, I have a good pattern to follow. Oh and BTW, since I hold a Masters degree my gown has “bat wings”. Yeah, seriously.

If that weren’t enough, I’m heading over to Victoria to talk SEO for WordPress 3 and then be on the tech question and answer panel with Lloyd—Agenda | WordCamp Victoria.

And just to cap off May on a high note, I’m giving my Websites with WordPress (for non-geeks) class through UBC Continuing Studies—UBC Computers, Media and Technology – Multimedia Summer Programs 2009 – Summer Workshops—which still has space available. In case you’re wondering, I’m not duplicating talks here. So if you sign up for my UBC class, you’re going to get something completely different from the rest of the talks this month.

Am I available for giving talks, workshops for you? I certainly am, just zap me a line or use my contact page and we can work something out.

Now, it’s time for me to get my locks shorn at my favourite stylists—East Vanity Parlour—so I look all slick and styled for these talks.
