Not to take away from any of you being interested in Create Your Own Blog, but as many of you also know before CYOB was finished I started on my second book, Using WordPress. Using WordPress is a beginners guide to WordPress with screencasts and podcasts to compliment what you’re reading in the book.
For example, while you’re reading about how to find and install plugins, you can watch me find and install plugins on screen. When I started this book in the “Using…” series, it was the multimedia parts that got me most excited. I think combining reading, listening, and seeing will help everyone in the all important doing part.
This morning before I sat down to continue work on Chapter 10 (the second half of the book), I thought you might like a sneak peek at what the cover of Using WordPress is going to look like (at least at this moment). I really like this style of cover. Cool, techie and catchy I think.
As for when this book is coming out, my understanding is this year. I am on a tight, tight timeline to finish the book by early March so things will be moving fast (and I won’t be getting out much).
Now, it’s time for me to get cracking on how to use WordPress for more than just a basic blog…

The cover definitely looks catchy – although, did you give thought to going with blue/black print on a white cover? There’s something about WordPress that has me think clean, and what’s cleaner than white? But then, I’ve never written a book so… =)
Actually Chris, I don’t have any say in the cover design. Pearson has standard covers for all the books in a series. Create Your Own Blog, follows the style of other books in the Create Your Own… series, so Using WordPress follows the rest of the Using… series. I think, though, that this might be the first in a new cover design for the series.
Not sure if there would be copyright issues. But I would think that this would have more impact if it had the W logo or if Wordpress was written in the same font as Wordpress. If this is for beginners then this would help them to identify as the Wordpress W is all over the place.
Maybe so, but again, Pearson has their own standard for covers. I haven’t gotten to the point where I’m allowed to design my own covers.
Tris,
Book cover? What book cover? I’m reading Create Your own Blog on my Kindle and don’t remember ever seeing a cover! However in these iPad days, which I understand are in full color, perhaps we will have a return of the digital cover, in which case, I agree this is a very handsome cover. I like the tagline, “More than just a book,” which warns me I may need an iPad to step up to this level of multi-media reading (any excuse to try out a new–and expensive-gizmatron!).
Thank you Sandy! That is a shame that the Kindle versions don’t show the coolio covers. Create Your Own Blog has a pretty colorful cover. I have to say I like this new one better.
Just have to wait a few more months until that one is done!
