[Disclosure: I used to be a blogger for b5media, but I resigned from my blogs there as of Oct 1]
In the world of blog networks you can go for a few huge blogs or for lots of niche blogs.? Toronto-based b5media went for the niche blog route.? There are blogs on just about every topic imaginable (including some you might not even thought of).? The blogs are organized into channels that have a cohesive look and feel and a channel editor to ride herd on the bloggers (like herding cats).? Today b5 took the innovate step to launch its first channel portal.? Spekked is the new b5 entertainment channel portal, here?s how Arieanna Schweber describes it:
Spekked is a new destination for tv junkies to find all the latest dirt about their favorite shows. It highlights the amazing content being produced every day on the 28 blogs (and growing!) that make up the Entertainment Channel at b5media.
We are very excited about this release, and the start of this new and vibrant entertainment community. Our blogs are top destinations for folks who want to be a part of a fan community – to be active participants, not passive readers. Spekked is a new way to find that content, and to interact with it. And it is the first of many of b5media?s channels to move into this dynamic new format. Source: b5media – b5media Celebrates Launch of Spekked
Contest?? Yes, I did mention that didn?t I?? To celebrate the launch of Spekked they are giving away stuff like an iPod nano, DVD sets, Netflicks subscriptions, etc and all you have to answer three trivia questions or post about Spekked.? All the info is on the post above.
I had to ask Arieanna, one question though for this article? what?s with the name?
Here?s what she said:
I spent a few dozen hours with my thesaurus and dictionary, and fell on the word “spec”, which means to speculate. Kind of like with tv, a lot of the buzz is on “what will happen” or “why something happened.” I wanted to roll with that. Then it came down to branding, and “Specced” is clearly unpronounceable, “Speked” looks weird, and “Specked” was being squatted and was a little bland and obvious. “Spekked” came after that, and actually I like it a great deal more than a dictionary spelling. It is more unique and is visually more catching in graphic form.
Great story, eh?
Personally I love the b5 network.? Yes, I know a lot of the people there, and many are close friends, but the real reason is the passion that the bloggers have for their topics.? You know these bloggers love their subjects.
It didn?t look like there was a feed for the portal, but I?m sure that will be coming ? there are channel-wide feeds already.
