Sterling Allan New Energy Congress–Gnomedex 2007

Sterling Allan is the “Captone” for today at Gnomedex 7 (2007)…Open Sourcing Clean Energy.  Which, has you know, is something I talk about often on my science blog.

“Imagine tomorrow gasoline was $3/gal…”

This is a hugely important issue.  We need to start tackling the generation and storage of energy in extremely creative ways.  Frankly, in this audience could very well be someone with an idea for a solution.  The brain trust here, well, it’s staggering.  Funny most of Seattle probably doesn’t know that, in many ways, the people who shape the Internet and what is done there, is in this room.  Not only that, we’re talking to each other and creating those new things.

Hmm, conspiracy theories and stories about people being killed because they discovered a free energy source.  Yeah, you know this audience probably has had enough of that.  What about talking about the advances in wind power, solar power, tide power.  Really the breakthroughs, the possibilities are just within reach.

“When you’re one step ahead of the crowd you’re a genius.  When you’re two steps ahead, you’re a crackpot.”

Ugh, oh man.  I’m just not liking this talk.  There is too much crap out there, pseudo-science and other garbage.  Yes, I know people thought the same of many technologies and such that we accept now, but really there are some laws of physics and thermodynamics that you’re not going to be able to get away from.

Perfect quote from Jeff Barr’s tweet:

gd – FYI, it is well known that the laws of the universe don’t apply to scientific reports hosted on Geocities pages.

What else can I say? Jeff Barr has the final word
