The dark side of Facebook is The Dark Side of Government and Privacy

In case you missed Mediasphere Radio yesterday, Jim and I started chatting about the iPhone then got into Facebook and other related social media networks.

The larger, bigger question is: What is Facebook going to do with our information? How, and who, will this information will be used.

So this isn’t our best show. We (I really) had some technical difficulties and didn’t think we were still on the air when we were (a bug in the BlogTalkRadio interface I think). We couldn’t tell if we were on the air or not so … it was a shame because this could have gone on for a while.

The topic is a really good one though and I hope our show and this YouTube video starts raising questions about Facebook.

Are we really asking these questions? Are we willing to challenge Facebook and get answers? I’m wondering if leaving Facebook might be a really good idea. Or at least limit what information I have up there. This is going beyond how individuals, or even companies, might use this information…have to wonder about governments in their search to root our terrorists, how far will they go?I don’t think this is a conspiracy theory kind of post here. We know data gathering is going on, by lots of different folks, but as Facebook is now making it even easier to share information (like now even online documents like via Zoho), it should be time to ask the questions.
